The richly decorated olive-green ground is adorned with intricate handpainted scrollwork and lavish gilt detailing, techniques reminiscent of traditional Japanese decorative porcelain. At the centre of both the cup and saucer is an elegant portrait of a European lady, framed in an ornate cartouche inspired by Rococo and Victorian aesthetics.
